Problem:

The Department of Defense (DoD) has hundreds of Military Low Level Training Routes that are used by every DoD flying Wing as part of normal ongoing training. Air Traffic Control does not provide deconfliction services (the ability to ensure that the flight paths are free of other military aircraft) for these routes for either military or civilian aircraft; deconfliction is limited to pre-flight planning. Currently, the primary deconfliction tools used by pilots are the Flight Information Publications (FLIP), which are generally presented as hard copy documents.

Solution:

To reduce the risk for a major mishap between aircraft, the Joint Low Level Deconfliction Tool was developed. This application accesses flight scheduling data via real time data feed from MADE (Military Airspace Data Entry); a key component in the FAA’s Military Operations System (MILOPS). The users - ranging from pilots to aviation planning teams and schedulers - are able to enter their flight mission in detail, which then provides detailed graphical and tabular route information, and will alert those users to traffic conflicts from other aircraft of low level training routes and in SUAs (Special Use Areas).
